    Axle Problems

    Hi All! I hate for this to be my first post and I know that it isnt the best of introductions, but I bought an 89 325i not to long back knowing that the axles needed to be changed. Didnt think that it would be a big deal, I didnt think twice about it. Well, now Im starting to think twice about it! lol.

    My question is, how the F#$% do I get the axle out?!? I have it all unbolted and have tried hammering it, I tried one three jaw puller and didnt really work (was missing some bolts) got another one that does have everything and its to a point now that the hub just moves with it. Is there any way to make the hub stop moving without damaging anything? I realize that they probably have never been changed but I cant for the life of me figure out how to get it out, and this is just the first one.

    Anyway, maybe I am just doing something wrong here but I just want to drive my E30 again, its so much better than my Saturn. Thanks everyone!

    Take the 6 studs out of the inner end at the diff. Remove the 30mm nut and lock ring at hub. Make sure the inner end is separated from diff. If your puller won't push the shaft back, put the wheel back on without center cap. Set car on ground, and use a drift and BFH to carefully drive it back through the hub.

      ok, thanks for the tip. But I just got my friend over and we were able to get it out. So that solves one problem but it now looks like its gonna need a new bearing, blah.

          possibly, but after thinking about it for 2 seconds, It might not be the bearing but I think I might change it anyway. But here is what I found when I pulled the axle and my new question is what part is this so I can get a new one. thanks again!;)

          Edit: excuse my stupidity, but is it all just part of the hub?

            The hub and bearing are separate entities on the rear. I'm not sure what I should be looking at here though.

                Ahhhh. Broken splines. Probably a good idea to replace it. Looked like crud on there before.
