One of those silly high idle situations

OK, so I bought my 325i about a month and a half ago, and it was in no great shakes but it ran strong, so I had no major problems with it. Well, the other day I was surfing the forums and looking for something to do, and my idle was at about 1k. not great, but from what I read, I could do better.

So I pulled the icv and it actually looked pretty clean so I didnt touch it. I then proceeded to pull the plastic elbow thing connected to the throttle body and it had some grim in it, so I decided to clean it out. I was feeling pretty good about it and went to go turn on the car, and it did turn on, but now instead of it idling at 1kish, its at anywhere from 1500 to about 1900.

Since doing it, it has had me stumped. It drives perfectly fine, it doesnt feel like it has lost any of its power, but as soon as i come to a stop, it just raises up. And when I say that it is 1500- 1900, its not a surging/pulsing motion. It Starts at the higher end, and then if its been on for awhile, it will drop down a bit. Then it might go back up again, but its not in a regular motion.

I am now just scouring the forums for similar situations, and havent found anything quite like it, so I turn to you guys. I have looked for vacuum leaks, and have yet to find any. I am going to pull the distributer tomorrow and spark plugs to see if there is any fouling. If I have time, I will pull the injectors and probably look into rebuilding them if its needed. When I will get a coolant temp sensor. The icv buzzes like its supposed to and seems to work fine. I could be forgetting something but I am working on this car on a very limited budget so I cant do everything at once.

Also, this may sound stupid, but I know that I have a leak in my power steering pump somewhere and that the fluid is low, could possibly affect it? I am just looking to get my car running right so I know that I can depend on it and start to have some fun with it. Thanks everyone in advance.

You have a vacuum leak. Look to see if any cracks have developed in the lines you took off. Recheck the fitting of the big elbow on the inlet. You'll find it.

well, I havent had time to check for vacuum leaks yet between work and replacing my axles, but I did have a second yesterday to do the "stomp test" and found that it was throwing a 1215. could that still be caused by a vacuum leak or should i go junkyard another afm?
