HELP! Can't figure out what is wrong with my electrical system.

I was wiring up the relays as stated in the DIY threads, reconnected the battery and tested it out and popped fuse #28 and smelt a bit of smoke.

When the key is on position #1 and I flick the high beam switch I hear the K3 relay click so it is working but get no high beams.

When I pull out the headlight switch I get no lowbeams but my citylights are on.

When I push the fog switch I get no fogs.

The windows do not work and I checked fuse #17 and it is fine.

So any idea of what I f*cked up?

what were you trying to do in the first place? and what did you do?

I was trying to jump the relays to get independent fogs.

I was trying to do the independent foglight mod and something went wrong. I ended up popping fuse #28 and after replacing the fuse I no longer have low beams, high beams, foglight or power windows.

Tested all of the relays and they all work.

Jumped 30 to 87 on the K5 window relay and power windows switches light up and work when activated. Plug a relay in and window switches do not work.

Jumped 30 to 87 on the K4 low beam relay and the headlights light up. Tested 86 for voltage and got +12 volts. Plug in a relay, pull the headlight switch and headlight do not come on. I connect a wire to 85 and I get +12V but when I take 85 to ground to bypass the headlight switch and headlights do not come on.

So any ideas where I should look from here?

open up the fuse block and look at the circuit board under it. see if you fried anything

im stumped. maybe fuse number 10 maybe the headlight switch went bad. they are prone to melting. especially if you short it out

Actually you were right. It was the circuit board. I blew a trace that fed +12V to pin 86 of all the relays that were not getting power.

I traced the connection and used a jumper for now and the car is back in action.

Do independent fogs this way. Its easy if you know how to solder and you can keep the fogs on with the high beam too

then break the connection on the circuit board with a screw driver or a utility knife. solder a wire to the spot right next to the break you just made. in my case i used a grey wire. this connection is located directly opposite the side where the relay was removed to get the screw out in step one

Last, connect it to the parking light wire which runs through the inside of the fuse box. you can use a test light for this or just see what color wire is going into your parking light.
