I have never adjusted the valves and I have owned the car for 50k and it has 250k on it. Are there any specific tools needed and what is the skill level? Thanks

yeah there is, it's inside a book called the bentley E30 manual. you can buy it on amazon.com for about $30. As a bonus it tells you how to do a lot of other things too. -
