So for a few months now my car has had this issue that gets frustrating that I believe may be fuel related. Whenever I give it alot of gas it will start missing really bad. But when I slowly creep on the gas to wide open throttle it runs fine. The other night I popped open the hood and you could smell gas. It also seems like it is running rich....... Any advice on what it could be? The car is a stock 91 318is

AFM and ignition do not make it smell like gas under the hood unless you have a gas leak too. If thats the case and your leaking gas and arcing a spark at the same time you better buy a fire extinguisherFirst: 1984 318i

Air flow meter is possible but would not respond well to gradual acceleration either and yes raw fuel smell isn't a good thing.

in addition to checking the fuel regulator, check all your fuel hose junctions, especially the cluster of 4 hoses that meet at the black plastic connector about a foot under the throttle body. This was leaking in mine to produce intermittent fuel smell. Check while running cause it evaporates quickly.Comment
