Man what an awesome swap. I've been looking for days for info on this, mostly just reading up on the sr20det. I thought it would be damn awesome to throw this into a E30 M3 with about 350HP. I want to do this so bad now. Anyone got an E30 M3 with a blown or dead motor? I seriously can't think of a downside or reason not to.

However doing it to a non-M, hell yeah. However Guillermo, dont dream too much as costs go up by thousands when you do. Assuming you get a red top SR20DET, tranny, standalone, custom driveshaft, custom tranny mounts, custom engine mounts, intercooler, wiring harness, so on and so forth, you'll be paying at least 3x your car's worth. And these are only stock components.... now add the stroke, the boost, tuning, etc etc..... Because Richard cant tune your car for you at his shop, and dynos require $$$, to tune your car right.
Just because it's relatively cheap to put an SR20DET in a 240sx, it doesnt mean that it's the same thing for an e30.Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

But I don't think its going to be 3x the cars worth. I'm seriously going to look into this and the first thing I'm going to is figure out how much. A nice E30 M3 is going for about 13k and up with decent mileage. I know of one that has 160k and they want 10k. So say the motor is bad I think 5-6k would be a reasonable offer. Now tack on what the swap would cost. With the kit from the link on the first page they say 5500 to 6500, but its probably more like 7-8k. So the value isn't much different from what a nice M3 would be. I could be wrong.
Either way there are plenty of people who have put tons of money into a car and don't do anything with it. If i was to build this car it would see regular track time. So i think that every penny would be well spent as long as i'm having fun and not just building it and then driving it around town everynow and then.
Here comes the bashing!

Poxy little SR20's.
Snap rockers when you rev them too hard.
Alloy blocks distort after being thrashed for a while (1 season in a NA touring car!!).
600hp easy, maybe, but reliable and cheap and an easy DD, I think not.
Where on the other hand you can grab a stock 2JZ-GTE and have 350rwhp without even looking at the engine, and it is perfectly civilised to drive every day and will do well over 150,000miles.
I sure know what I'd choose.
Disclaimer:
I am in no way biased by having a 1JZ-GTE(the 2JZ's revvy little brother) in my E30.292rwhp E30 :D
