Also, i forgot to mention this but flipping the cluster bulbs 180 degrees will probably get them to kick on if the fuses are good. 👍 Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

Not the bulbs but the bulb housings to clarify. Twist them out, flip them around and reinstall. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

I'll clip that zip tie tomorrow when it's light and I can get a better photo. I was wondering if it was a non working alarm. I figured the little light was a alarm thing but was hoping it was just a dummy light. Eventually everything is going to get gutted but I figured I'd figure out what stuff was first. Thanks! You're getting some great help here already, but I think I can clear one thing up. I also have a '91, and while I was wiring my stereo I read that there is no factory fader switch in the late model stereo systems. They use a four channel amp in the head unit instead of a two channel amp with fader. More info here, some of which may help you chase down wiring (post #16):

So I'm going to write out these wires as I'm doing them. Coming from the cluster of wires plugged into the box, I have two white with black going to a green and black, and green and purple that are behind the driver speaker. I have a single brown coming up over the abs unit and vampire tapped into a brown behind the headlight switch. Then there is two plugs going to what looks like the alarm speaker. One goes into the bundle of wires. The other is two brown and green and a red and green that I cant seem to follow back. It looks like they came out of the big bundle by the clutch coming through the firewall. The wire nut with the red wire runs to the fuse in the bundle. The last few are a bit more troubling I think. Four brown, a light blue, and a red and white. They run up into the dash. The blue appears to run to the obd plug. The red and white is tapped into the red and green in this plug from behind the radio area. The brown and the red and white run into the yellow plug in the center of the instrument cluster. While doing all this I also noticed two disconnected wires, a green and a grey and red that look like they used to run to the blue plug on the right side of the instrument cluster. And there is an orange plug with five wires not plugged into anything that looks more oe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think good help is an understatement. Once I realized I had an m40 engine not an m42. That I'd need to buy a rotor and cap and valve cover gasket water pump and timing belt from Europe, and then saw the wiring, I almost cut my losses and sold the car. Didn't realize the fader meant a radio fader. That makes more sense now. I don't believe this car had the premium sound either. I think someone just added the tweeters later. Alright yellow plug in the instrument cluster is just for the OBC. My OBC is broken anyway, so I was already planning on deleting it with a blank panel for switches or something. So I'm just going to remove all of that.

I'm still not entirely sure what certain things go to. Mainly the plug under the clutch with the blue wire and brown (ground) going into the firewall. And the black plug that was in the alarm speaker. Other than those two I think I can pull the whole thing.

Aha! Orange one is apparently for an airbag. PO put in an Mtech 1 wheel so that makes sense. The ones wired to the speaker are likely for various chimes and hence the speaker box. Door open chime and the like. Looks like I can just leave that one unplugged. Once I get the interior reassembled I'll try getting that all the way out and hopefully it'll start up with no issues.

Ok so the wires by the clutch are the temp sensor wiring for the obc so I can move that out of the way easy enough. I checked voltage on pin 23 and 24 on the white c2 connector and got voltage so I guess it's not the switch. But the illumination on the dash and instrument cluster still don't work. There's new bulbs in the cluster so unless they were doa I don't think that's it. The two wires that I thought were coming out of the blue plug must go to something else. One is grey and red and the other is green. Green is still in the plug and grey and red doesn't exist on the pin out. They have some sort of connector crimped to them so they must go elsewhere.
