    Engine block heater for E30’s

Anyone have a functional block heater that they use or can suggest? Gets cold where I live.

Likely that Kats will be your best, most readily available option. Freeze plug install, thread ins (coolant or oil side), magnetic, and in hose heaters all work fine. There was a dealer option heater, but I can't find any info on it with a quick search.

I prefer something thread in over magnetic or adhesive. Where can I thread one in? Is there a specific location on an M20?

Block drain is the only thread in position I know of, and you'd likely want to look for a diesel block heater for a thread in application. However, it may just be easier to get one that splices in to a heater hose, and it would make routing the plug a little easier.

The only one I have personally installed was on a VW diesel that went in to a freeze plug, but it was a bit frustrating to fit.

The easiest solution would be to splice a universal automotive heating coil into bottom radiator hose. Be forewarned these devices use a lot of electricity.
