    Hood Problems

    Hi all,
Yesterday when I was done working on my engine, I closed the hood, but noticed that the passenger side roller guide did not sit right, so I would have to push it down to put it in the notch. Upon further inspection, the roller guide seems to be catching on a metal pipe that may have been bent out of place next to the passenger side notch. What should I do? Not sure what the pipe is for, not trying to break any important lines on accident.
Also, how would I get my hood to pop out when I pull the hood release mechanism? Right now It pops but I have to go to the front of the car to first pull it out, and then lift the hood up. Would replacing the strut do that? Or is there a separate spring or strut I need to do something to?

the whole mechanism is fairly simple. run through it making sure everything is where it belongs. post some pics of the issue areas. sent from hell using Tapatalk

Sounds like the hood is drastically out of alignment. Those metal pipes behind the track are the AC cooling lines. See how to align you hood here: https://www.rtsauto.com/how-to-align...ntil%20perfect.

Yeah honestly that probably is the case. While I was working on the car, I accidentally hit the hood with my arm and it sorta fell on me so maybe that did it. But also it looks like the AC cooling lines are bent out of place, could that be possible? Can that be done easily? I'll put up pictures by friday or saturday latest.

I doubt if the AC pipes are bent. More likely the are not mounted properly. Google E30 AC hoses and you should find some photos of where they are secured. The Bentley manual should have some pictures also.

If you "hit the hood and it sorta fell" you may have bent the bracket that holds it open. Make sure that's not screwed up and you made need to replace the lift support

Update: I sprayed PB Blaster on the assembly to pop the hood out and kept on latching it and unlatching it, left it overnight, and now it works great! If it happens again I’m gonna spray it again, and then coat everything with lithium grease.
Not sure if it is actually a hood alignment issue, the hood seems to be aligned right and the roller sits correctly in the latch. I tried bending the AC lines but it wouldn’t stay, but if I held them back the hood would latch great.
