    Grounded DME pin 1

I'm trying to diagnose a crank, but no start condition on a '91 iX.

I've narrowed it down to lack of spark and started going through Jim Levie's checklist (here) and found that pin 1 on the DME harness is closed to ground.

Knowing is half the battle, but what is the best way to figure out why and fix it? Do I need to rip that harness apart? Is there something easy to check?

The picture I've attached shows the end of the wire that connects to the coil. There's some uninsulated part of it that isn't present (or at least hidden) on my other E30. Not sure what to make of it.

I figured it out. The wire had shielding around it that the PO had wired together with the main part of the wire. After I separated them and put on a new ring connector, the car fired right up.
