They really are not much of a "close ratio" transmission. The ratios are not a whole lot different really?

I think the best part about it is it opens up a lot more final drive options on the cheap.

From that table, it looks like the difference between the gearing in the two transmissions is pretty significant. The differences between the transmissions might be balanced out by the different final drives, though...

I have a 265/6, but no M3 to put it in. I read the prices of the dogleg trans and got excited. Maybe if I let it sit for a few more years...

yeah, it's pretty significant. The e24 mine came out of had a 3.07 rear end and accelerated on par with e24 M6s up to 60 or so. You also don't want OD in a race box.

I have 2 doglegs, one is goingin my US spec E30 M3 and the other I want to fit to my M20 325i. The problem I have fitting it to the M20 is the tailshaft. I have the 528e bellhousing so that's fine, its just the output shaft from the gearbox is bigger and the gearbox is longer overall.

So I need a modified tailshaft, then she will go in. I am thinking a 3.46 ratio for the diff also.

I have a 1500rpm gap between 2nd and 3rd on my standard 260 box, annoying.

In response to the OP, I paid less than 1k for each of my doglegs, but they are not rebuilt. A rebuild here in Aus is around $2k.
