    JEC could mean Jim Conforti.

    Otherwise I have no guesses.

JEC is known Japanese electronics company. They made electronic parts for cars. But that chip has hand written label so it must be some amateur tuned chip.

I guess is a cheap ebay chip too... But at least the car runs great, but I've never driven a stock chip, so I can't tell if it better or not.

Where would be a good place to buy a quality chip?

Its conforti, email him and ask. Or email turner/bimmerworld and confirm. If you look at the old mailing lists, Jims email was JEC@us.dynix.com which although I believe to be defunct, gives you an insight to JEC.

Conforti chips were professional had quality labels on them, looks like someone copied a chip on a burner and just sells them on ebay.

I have a Conforti/TMS and an Iigomotive ss93 in my other car. The Iigomotive is more responsive by far.

                ^might be a copy. Or....

It may be a totally stock ecu, and chip. Their a few companies that "re-manufacturer" BMw ecu's and even OBC light bars. (as far as I know(could be wrong) they they buy them in bulk from scrap yards, test them, and ship them out - I don't think they really do much to them)

I'd peal up the label, and see what's under it.

Like others have said, Turner, Jim Conforti (Bonneville Motor Works), Mark D'Sylva and IIGO.
