very nice work. a lot of attention to detail on the drive train makes it a good build.

Got the guides in and cleaned the head a little.

Pressure tested the head for any cracks.

    Got some stuff done.

I rebuilt the oil pump. The regulator spring was a little short so I stretched it out to 70mm to compensate for the squirters. Also shimmed the relief valve spring for more preload.
I ground down some of the sharp edges too.

The thought of putting in another motor DID cross my mind. Like an LS Chevy. But the S14 just "belongs" in that car. It's what gives the M3 it's personality. Anything else would have made it just another hotrod. A different car.

Nice save! When I did my head guides were not a problem, but this was many years ago,

Looks like a fun project! I would keep it gutted if it were mine. But I am a naive 17 year old... I almost like the patina on the paint. Black out all the plastic and see how it looks with the patina! Sort of tells a story... How you saved the car. Look forward to future updates man!

This week I worked on the block. I cleaned it up and painted it. I like doing this before machining so I don't have to tape off the machined areas later.

After long pondering, I've decided to add piston oil squirters. I'm using the ones from an e36 m50 based engine. I prefer these because they have a built in check valve to maintain oil pressure during idle. There's also a lot less machining involved too.
