Looks like a fun project! I would keep it gutted if it were mine. But I am a naive 17 year old... I almost like the patina on the paint. Black out all the plastic and see how it looks with the patina! Sort of tells a story... How you saved the car. Look forward to future updates man!Leave a comment:

This week I worked on the block. I cleaned it up and painted it. I like doing this before machining so I don't have to tape off the machined areas later.
After long pondering, I've decided to add piston oil squirters. I'm using the ones from an e36 m50 based engine. I prefer these because they have a built in check valve to maintain oil pressure during idle. There's also a lot less machining involved too.
This photo is of an S52 showing the factory drilled hole.
