    5 lug question

    my front setup
96m3 control arm, ie 25mm sway bar ,95 m3 strut housing

whats going on guys so im finishing up my 5 lug swap and i was trying to figure this out and i got stumped. in the diagram, look at #6 and #7. with the ie sway bars came the end links. so i put one end into the control arm and the other into one of the 3 slots for the sway bar. now my question is i know stock on m3's the #6 endlink attaches to the strut housing and into the sway bar, but what goes on with the #7 one?

That mounts to the stock location on the front lower control arm just like your stock 4 lug suspension's sway bar

The bottom of #7 goes into the control arm, the other end goes into the sway bar

#6 is for the tab on the strut if you go that route. It is the m equivalent of #7

Edit: You are already using a big sway bar so I would stick with #7. Bracing it to the strut adds stiffness and can always be done later if you need it.

People have their opinions about M vs. non-m end links... all I will say is that everyone I've talked to has said that the control arm mounting point is better.

Yes you get rid of #6, it's an either or. The control arm mount is actually the weaker of the two options, as little as it may be, the arm can flex under load and will be less responsive, especially with a stiffer sway bar causing more flex. That U shaped tab can also give you fits, ive seen tweaked/bent ones that end up being huge PITA.
Whereas the strut tube link mount is far stronger, but does require the mounting tab to be installed properly as it is welded on (this only matters if your adding this on). If it were my car I would go with the strut tube mount.

Idk, I find a steel control stronger than a thin strut mount

From my past 4 years as a fabricator, being Ryan Gangemi's apprentice for the same amount of time, doing many boring and many fun things; and lastly learning from my friends at ground control. It's all just what I've learned and been taught while breathing, eating, and dreaming BMW everyday for 4 years and thus my

also my sway bar link, even tho it is adjustable will most likely not reach the strut tube mount

Ah. Just curious, because IMSA and World Challenge engineers have told me the exact opposite...

Oh! Well I would say it's all a matter of opinion...but they obviously know more than I. Guess I just learned something new for the day haha

Yeah... I still have my doubts. I mean, why would BMW mount the bars like that on the M and not the other way around? Then again Porsche did the opposite and did away with the strut-mount. Idk man... But like you said I guess they know more than either of us haha
