    Car swaying on road

I have a 90 325i, with semiperformance Sumitomos. I know I need the steering guibo fixed but Im not sure if this is caushing my other problem. The car seems follow the seams and bumps of the road more than it has in the past, I know this can happen with performance tires, but it seems worse in the past few weeks than before. Tire press. are all 35. Could this be caused my the guibo needing to be replaced? ALso, if this peice is riveted in, what is the best way to get it out? I lost my Bentley manual.

    thanks

I have the same problem. Loose steering when traveling on the highway, a bit of play, lousy feel when on-center. I attribute it to the same thing; steering guibo. I plan to replace mine soon.

Information on the difficulty of changing this would be much appreciated

if it's the one under the dash, it shouldn't be too hard.. I was poking around trying to tighten the steering shaft nut to make my rattle go away, and noticed that my steering guibo looks brand new. it looked fairly easy to get at though.

I talked with Chris Deurden about it a bit. He recently replaced his with a machined aluminum piece (custom), to replace the factory rubber guibo. From what he told me, you need to loosen the steering rack from the subframe (2 bolts), and get at the guibo from there. I'm going to order one next week and hopefully install it next weekend.

Another member posted the part information in another thread:

Don't forget to check the control arms, bushings and tie rods.

my car has no swaying problems on the road, the steering wheel is incredibly light - its like pinky steering, could the steering guibo be the culprit?

ya man, i think i might have the same problem. on the hightway it just seems like the slightest movment on the steering wheel makes it lean pretty bad, makes me feel uncomfortable, im compating to a cobra with full steeda suspension package. i already replaced the front a arm bushings, that helped a little bit. i think im going to but the some lowering springs and shocks in to it. maybe that will make it feel better. i just gives me a feeling of unsafe ness. just switshing lanes makes me feel it. or if a semi drives by.

Some steering guibos are attached by studs that have to be drilled out in order to be removed.

I had this problem big time from having too much tire pressure. try lowering it a bit. I leave 32 in the IS3, and 33 in the bimmer. with my falkens i had like 38psi with no prblems, but when i got yoke parada spec 2s, i was all over the road.

I'm glad i'm not the only one with the that stupid steering U-joint all messed up. I've had that problem for about a year, but i've been drivin the IS3 while the bimmer sits covered and parked till i'm done with school.

I thought it was my shocks and springs. Just a guss.
