    Sparco bar on a m42

so we tried to fit the bar on my 318is, but it seems like the bar will touch the intake manifold - i could only imagine the horrible vibrations that may cause to the car.

Anyone have any advice? I could throw on some washers to raise the bar up a bit, but then it probably wont leave enough thread to tighten the nuts properly?
    thanks.

A guy I know just shaved the intake mani slightly to clear the bar.

get a different bar. I had to try 3 different strut bars on my M42.

          Why?

The Sparco will fit fine with VERY simple modification and it's the best bar you can get for cheap.

With just 2 thin washers on each stud, we were able to fit it fine onto an M42. That left enough thread for the top nut to thread on completely and be torqued to spec. It was really close to the intake manifold, but even with revving the motor up and letting it torque around a bit, it didn't hit the bar at all.

It was my car that we stacked the washers on. I really dont see it as being a problem since with my bar I will put the 3rd bolt hole so the chassis will be absorbing the lateral motion and not the studs. In essence all the studs are doing is holding the bar from coming up off the strut, while the rigidity is coming from the pressure on the chassis.

Not saying it's a bad thing. I just wouldn't do it.Purely personal choice.Even If I were to go this way, I would use longer studs as I mentioned in the other thread.

how would longer studs space the bar from the strut tower?

they dont, but they allow more threads when washers are used
