    E-Break overhaul questions

My ebreak has been a little sticky for a while, so I am going to rebuild it before I end up with a seized wheel. I will obviously replace the springs, shoes, and hardware, but I have a couple questions about the other parts:

    1. Should I replace the cables? Im normally all for "while youre in there" stuff, but I am hesitant because ive seen how much of a PITA the cables can be. My car has been a CA car its whole life afaik though. Should I just go for it? It seems like they pretty much never fail so I am hesitant.

    2. What parts are actually necessary? The kit on FCP Euro includes the adjuster that sits at the top, and the actuator that sits at the bottom. I dont really see how either would fail so I am unsure of why they would need to be replaced. If anyone has any good reasons for either, im all ears.

    Thank you for your time!

the cables are often the fail point if you are having issues. mine were an crapsolute pain to replace. i still wanna refresh the e-brake shoes some day but all was working fine save for the cables.

Alright, i’ll replace them for sure then. Based on what I saw the last time I had my rear rotors off, my issue is that the springs aren’t holding enough tension to force the shoes to return all the way, but I bet the 40 year old cables aren’t helping either. Now i’m mostly just conflicted about spending $60 on the adjusters and actuators that seem unnecessary, but I have a feeling that if I don’t spend the money now i’ll be mad at myself in a decade

the cable freeze causing most of the issue. e-brakes usually only hold a non running car stationary. most e-brake shoes and components will last the lifetime of the car. the cables are the weak point. they freeze causing the e-brake to lock and not release.
