Or he could just take it to machine shop and have the parts that need it pressed. Then he could do the rest of the work himself.
Some of you arrogant jackasses seem to forget that you were once new to working on cars. Someone asks a noob question on how to do something on their car, and all they get is "take it to a shop". If all you ever do is take your car to a shop, you won't ever learn how to do it.
NC325iC, ignore half of these wanks, get a Bentley manual, and learn how to do the work.
You'll definitely need to take it to a shop to get the bushings pressed out and new ones pressed in. If you don't take the whole CA out, it's nearly impossible to get the new bushings on unless you have the BMW tool.
1. unbolt CAB lollipops (16 or 17mm bolts, 2 on each lollipop)
2. press off CAB lollipops with CAB's
3. press out old bushings
4. press in new bushings
5. reinstall CAB lollipops with new CAB's using sylglide or something similar
your going to want a shop to do all the pressing for you, doing it in a vice can be sketchy and you probably dont have the right tools do actually do it right in a vise. good luck.
yeah i think i can handle gettin the lolipops off then takin it too a shop, i have a bently i was just wonderin if anyone had any tips, im not completely worthless when it comes to cars guys.
thanks to the guys that said something other than just take it to a shop.

I did it without taking it to a shop, my dad replaced cabs on e28 without going to the shop. I dont have a press, and it can be done (don't recommend my method).
The right way to do it is to have the pressed out, because you dont want to mess up the lip of the lolipop. Here are a few tips,
1)repair manual says to center punch the end of the control arm, but its kinda difficult, I drilled a small hole in the end to have a groove for my puller to sit in. If you dont have a 3 prong puller you can rent one from an autoparts store. Place the puller on the lolipop and start tightening, it should eventually pop off. With the bushings off you cen easily take them to be pressed out. Does not cost much from what I hear.
2)I would recommend getting a set of upgraded poly bushings, the rtrs bushing will slide right onto the control arm without pressing them in.
If your not going to use the rtrs bushings, use a large socket and hammer the lollypops on to the arm..
And don't forget soapy water.

my urethane CAB just slid rite on the CA without any force or lube...are my CAB just filthy slutbags?
right, the bushing should slide right on the control arm. Its getting the bushing inside the lollipop that requires the soapy water and mucho force to slide in.
