    nuts on CA ball joints

I have new self-locking nuts for all the ball joints on a nwe control arm I'm installing, it tightens on to the bolt on the ball joint for a few turns and then after that it spins along with the 'bolt'(of the ball joint), therefore not tightening up at all anymore. someone said they had the same problem but used air tools and it was fine, but I don't have air tools. what should I do?

Use a jack to push the taper up and hold it in place.

    Duh.

Pay a mechanic man, you aren't one.

What Jordan said. Its really easy. Just leave the car on jack stands, then jack up the strut on the outer ball joint. Then tighten the nut. Done.

You are better off putting the jack underneath the balljoint from the beginning, once those suckers start to spin they sometimes don't stop.

          Keep it slideways!!

            Thread bump of the century.

Just wanted to say this thread (found via search) saved the night for the Scooby front control arm install. I couldn't figure out how to tighten the ball joint nuts since the studs kept spinning.

Support the bottom of the joints with a floor jack fixed it! :)

            Praise be internetz
