Im having a inspection soon because im located in hawaii and thats how your able to run you car legally kind of like a smog check. well anyway, one of the checks is the e-brake, if it can still hold the car on a hill or to see if the car is still capable of not rolling back without pulling the e-brake that high. right now on a small hill the car e-brake cant hold it with just 3 clicks which i think is need to pass the inspection. i know in a drum brake system that they have a star wheel to expand the shoe to make it close to the drum for the e-brake, but the car is a disc brake system. anybody know how to help me out?? i already changed the brake pads not too long ago. well any help would be greatly appriciated. thanks in advance!!

I don't exactly know what you are asking, but the parking brakes are inside of the rear rotors. You have to pull the rotor off, and in there you will find the expanding pads like you described. You can replace the pads if they are shot, or there are adjusters inside that you can use to make the brakes "tighter."Comment

well thats what they inspect to see if it is safe.Originally posted by BahnE30shouldn't matter how many clicks it takes. as long as it holds the car.
you can adjust the cables from under the boot, tighten them as tight as you can get but the car is still able to roll freely when the e-brake is off.
thanks guys for the info. some other guys in the other thread i posted this gave me some other info. thanks again!Comment

well i just checked it out and when i pull the e-brake up to 8 clicks without the car being in gear it rolls. with the car in gear and 8 clicks it rolls a little then stops. 9 and above clicks can hold the car without the gear. right now its holding the car in gear at 11 clicks. im just testing this on a little hill too, just a little incline.Comment
