From drum brakes to disc brakes?

i just picked up an 85 318i as a project car and it has rear drum brakes. i was wondering if there were any brake kits i could buy to convert them to disc brakes. i know it wouldnt be very cheap, but i just wanna know what is out there. also, any BBK kits? i did search and it didnt come up with anything useful. thanks.

I wanna know too, Right now I've been told that a 325 rear subframe and all the rear suspension bits will bolt right up. Then it's just a matter of routing the brake lines back there and what not...

Just get them off a 325, trailing arms are the main bits you need, you might have to change the master cylinder as well. My 85 euro 318i has disc all round but i'm not sure whether it was factory or done by PO

Buy a 325i parts car. You can change your car to rear discs as well as vented front discs.

I'm doing the same thing. So far I have 325 trailing arms, the hardlines, calipers, etc. but still need to see if I need to change the MC.

I forgot most 318's only have solid discs, mine has vented fronts as well. Weighing only 1000kg it stops very well, especially with ATE discs and Greenstuff pads. Kind of odd thats it has disc all round as its a real basic car, ie no electrics at all.

so the best thing would to just find a junked 325 and take the rear end off of it basically? what about a big brake kit? any place online sell anything like that? for front and back?

Yeah, but what do you need a big brake kit for? And to install a BBK you would have to install all the 325 components first anyways.

I got 325 cabariolet rear arms, caliper etc... for the drums to disks conversion.
                  1. Can my driveshafts work with the 325 arms?
                  2. If not, are the 325 driveshafts the correct length to reach my diff (The 325 came with the big case diff and my car came with small case diff)?

You don't need to change the master cylinder, I did it on my old car and braking wasn't hindered in the least.

I have everything you would need to do the swap if you want it. Just send me PM.

How? The MC for a drum brake car directs a shit load of power to the rear. Way more than a set of disc brakes would need.

Anyway, I have a 325e sitting, want some training arms and discs and calipers?

Because it doesn't. I did the same swap on my 85 318i and there is no brake biasing. they all lock up at the same time. I now have a MC off of my 84 325e parts car and don't notice a difference.
