The down sides to a low dust pad are reduced brake performance, possible noise, and possibly brake vibration from pad deposits if you exceed the MOT of the pads. Overheating low dust pads is very easy to do and can happen in street use.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I had pretty good luck with Bendix CT3 ceramic pads on my subaru.

Street stopping power is good and very low dust. Hasn't squeak since day 1.

It's also a GG rated which is better than most street pads out there.

Bendix don't make many pads for euros, but E30 pads are one of the few they make.

For normal street use there's no downside. We've been using Akebono ceramics in customer cars as a low dust option for 5 years now. I've used them in every street car I've owned since they were invented, no problems.

We did recently have a customer with an e38 that had wear issues on the fronts, he got about 13k miles out of them but that's an anomaly.

I added Textar ceramics to my e39 all the way around and only got 15k out of my rears for some reason. The fronts are fine, but I"m switching the back to akebono ceramic.

Carbotechs aren't cheap, but they kick ass. Their autocross pad works great on the street.

I run Akebono euro pads in our PNW rainy weather. Never had an issue with braking or keeping my rims clean.
