    Why 318ti rear end?

    Pretty new around here.

Have heard mention of swapping the rear end of the 318ti into the e30 chassis, just wondering what the advantage is?

    Different suspension points?

    Thanks!

The 318ti is 5 lug and the trailing arms/brakes are a direct swap in to the E30.

    That's why.

      That's it?!

Are the brakes at least different? Gear ratio?

Brakes are a bit bigger but not much and you would still have to use your existing diff

You could have the same rear end, just swap trailing arms and stubs.

Diff is smaller case on Ti and has smaller axles but can use the E30 stuff. Hate to say it but why are you looking this route if you have no clue why folks go this route?

What's wrong with your OEM set up?

Probably because he was swarching, and saw it pop up a few times here and there.

Go venture off into a new car platform and I'm sure you'll be a little but confused with some of that chassis well known upgrades/fixes/problem areas.

Word. If it's all about 5 lug, then it's a waste for my purposes.

                I'm not new to much.

Did I read somewhere that the 318ti rear setup sticks outward another 10mm than stock e30?

No, the 6 cylinder Z3 arms do stick out further though.

If you do a 5 lug in the front, then this is a good option to do.

IF you do a 318ti rear with E36 M3 up front, the brake bias will be terribly biased toward front, IMO dangerously so. The fix is to buy Massive Lees 318ti rear BBK

So a 318ti 5 lug setup in the rear offers similar track width as a stock e30?

Yes I am absolutely sure. I am not talking about where the hub sits because we all know the hub is out further which is why it uses a higher offset wheel. The difference in the Z3 6 cylinder arms and E30/ti arms is in the arm itself. TRUST ME, I just helped a friend re-do his 5 lug swap because he originally pieced it together with 6 cylinder Z3 arms. We now have E30 arms installed with the Z3 parts and the wheel fits MUCH better.
