M8 & M10 bolts from axle to diff interchangeable?

So I lost 2 of my bolts. Argh.

I am going to try my luck at the junkyard on Saturday, but I am concerned about sizing. My bolts are all M8, but when I went on RealOEM and other sites it always lists M10. Are these bolts interchangeable? If I find an E30 at the yard with M10 bolts will these work, or do I need to find M8s?

I can't even find M8s for sale on the interwebs, only M10.

    HALP.

Not interchangeable. A good hardware store should be able to provide you with a bolt you could use, take one of your old bolts in and show them. Are you sure your bolts are M8?

Or order from Blunttech and they will show up at your door like magic.

I'll check again tonight, but I am pretty sure I was using my 8mm hex socket on them last night.

Thanks for the reply- at least now I know not to try the M10 size. Are the M8's uncommon or something?

        Just what i thought.

The bolt size has nothing to do with the wrench size you use to remove/install it.

        A 10mm bolt (M10) generally uses a 8mm allen wrench.

M10 is a bolt that has threads 10mm in diameter.

This is why I come here- to make myself look bad and get the help I need. :p

Thanks man! I'll still double check this when I get home tonight.

No problem, if you measure your bolt's threads they will measure slightly under their size, say 9.85mm or so for a 10mm bolt.

There are also different thread pitches for each size of bolt so just take an old bolt with you and use their thread gauge.

if you have a tap and die set, try running a tap in the hole or a die on the bolt and see what goes nicely DO NOT FORCE IT. then read the size on the tap and or die!
