How To: Remove Subframe Mount From Chassis

I got an email from a guy asking about how to remove the rear subframe today. As I started typing out a description of how to break the aluminum centers of the mounts loose from the chassis, I realized that a drawing would be a lot easier to understand. Hopefully this saves someone from pounding she shit out of the metal lip inside the car before they realize that it isn't part of the mount lol...I learned that one the hard way about 8 years ago.

    So, here you go!

    Very nice work.
Or instead of threading m16 you can just screw in 5/8 lag bolt instead. Way easier and just as efficient. Obviously you wont be able to use the existing subframe bushing, but you're changing it anyways.

Yup, that works too. I happened to have the tap on hand when I did it, but yeah 1 5/8 lag bolt would be fine too.

just to add a note...this works on sedans really well, as the "bolt" is under the seat.
On convertibles,,,,not so easy. if your going to use this method you have to remove seat, side panels and get a 3 foot rod and try to locate the hole. Then you have to hammer on the rod
or in the case of verts, use a subframe busing removal tool is a lot less work and frustration
which you can use from under the car.
