    E Brake Help!!!

I just purchased a 1988 325ix and the e brake doesn't work. The e brake is engaged but the handel is down and it wont click or stay up when I pull it. I tried searching for it but most e brake problems seem to be the brake not engaging at all. Any direction to helping me would be appreciated.

If the handle isn't clicking or locking into position when raised, something is wrong with the ratchet pawl. If the brakes are on, regardless of the position of the handle, there is a problem with the cables or with the ebrake mechanism.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
