    Poly diff mount

    Hi all

    I am considering getting some poly diff mounts, what is the feel like on the street? I have searched around a bit but am unable to find some threads on these. I would assume the ride and noise is a little more than stock but has anyone noticed anything different with these when compared to stock?

    I have one of the UHMW diff mounts from Condor. It's stiffer than poly. I noticed no difference in feel, but there is a slight increase in noise. Not excessive, it never makes conversation hard even at higher speeds, but it is audible.

    Honestly, the only advantage I can see of a poly diff mount over one of the Z3 voidless rubber mounts is that aftermarket is usually cheaper. After doing my whole car with UHMW, I'll be going back to rubber for at least the rear trailing-arm bushings.

    Increased harshness doesn't equal better handling. All it does is make the car feel cheap.


    I'm not knocking Condor's products at all. They make top notch stuff at good prices. However, if you're not actually racing your car, you don't need some of that stuff. It just makes for a worse street car sometimes.

      Thanks man, this is exactly what i was looking for. I am running IE poly rear trailing arms, and rear subframe bushings so this is the next step for me in stiffening things up. Im split about going poly on this bushing because, as you said, it would be cheaper and last longer, but on the other hand, unnecessarily contribute adversely to NVH.

      And nice car btw, i really like your bronzit coupe, looks great, are those euro weaves btw?

        Z3 voidless rubber mounts - These have gotten pretty spendy, but they're still a great option.

        As you know it's pretty subjective. Personally I like to run the softer urethane like what you have (no where near as stiff as umhw/aluminum) and keep the drivetrain bushings rubber (trans/motor/diff).

          IMO - unless it's a pure, 100% race car that never sees the street - don't do it. the NVH increase is significant and any performance difference has got to be very close to zero.

            I ran poly in the trailing arms and subframe and the noise inside the car is one thing, but with the windows down in the summer the squeaking is just embarrassing. I would run subframe again in the subframe for sure (they're a bitch to change and there isn't that much vibration & noise transfer. I am however considering other options for the trailing arms (possibly heims).

            More specific to your question, I'm told the diff. mount bushing is often the last to go. If yours is gone and you're running a good deal more power, poly may be a good option. If you're relatively stock on power, I would stick with the rubber. Some give in the system is never a bad thing.

              I recently bought a diff that came with a solid aluminum bushing. Thought it was going to be rough as hell, but in the end it didn't effect the ride at all... imo at least.
