Replacing control arms. Inner balljoint won't poke through hole

So I'm halfway through replacing my control arm. I can't get the inner balljoint to poke through its hole far enough that I can get the nut on it.
I'm hesitant to do up the outer balljoint completely as if I need to get it off again it won't be easy.
I also cannot bolt in the lollipop as the holes don't line up yet. I assume that it needs both balljoints to be done up before that.
Is there a trick that I'm missing?

Note: Take the plastic covers OFF the balljoints BEFORE you try to install them.
    All done now.
