    control arm nuts

so guys, what's the secret to removing and replacing the center top nut on the control arm ball joint? open end wrench a quarter turn at a time then flipping the wrench? pass side can't access from above with socket due to exhaust system. will a gear wrench fit? don't wana spend the coin if it won't fit. i dropped the sway bar and that gave me enough clearance to get them off but it took almost half the day. and when replacing, how the fuck do you get in there to torque them down?

    oh yea, it's an 87 325es

Crow's foot with an extension. Won't be accurate for a torque value. But, as long as it's tight enough, you'll be fine.

Ebay. Be careful, I just did this, and if you get new BMW lock nuts a 22mm will no longer fit, it was resized down to 21mm on the new revision.

Seems to me I loosened the motor mount after removing the heat shield then used a couple of long extensions and a u joint threaded through the exhaust....on a b25 mind you

I just went through this pain this past weekend....couldn't access the passenger side because of my turbo system, so went from underneath....slow and painful, and just made it good n tight.

My lemforder control arms came with a 22mm nut.
