Brake M/C upgrade for 89 325i worth doing?

I notice from reading these forums that upgrading the brake master cylinder from the stock unit is common mod for e30 owners with ABS. Is this equally true for all years, or were some years more afflicted with poor pedal feel than others?

Any specific observations on the 89 325i model w/ ABS appreciated.
