That looks to me like "universal" fitting that would work on inverted double flares on the inside taper you describe and also a bubble flare on the outside taper as you are using. The outside taper clearly has less contact than a dedicated bubble flare.

I highly (as in am 100% certain that's not true) doubt that claim. I've been track driving for over 4 years and haven't heard of a single track that will only allow stainless lines. I've also never seen a single OE line go bad, but I've seen several stainless go bad and trust me, the result wasn't pretty. These things all seem to fail in the crimp or right above it, just like yours did. If you're driving an F1 car, go ahead and use the stainless lines that were actually engineered for something other than looks...

Jlevie and many other Spece30 drivers will tell you the same. I'll trust them and what they've seen before I trust what anyone has "heard". Stainless lines are garbage. They have no improved pedal feel other than the placebo you get from bleeding your brakes for the first time in 15 years when you put the new lines on.

Seriously, a set of new OEM lines (not quite OE quality but still very good) are cheaper and better than stainless IMO (and many other people's "O" as well).

I just got that info from a guy who was saying Nelsons Ledges in ohio wont let guys through tech if they have stock rubber hoses. I have no clue as to the truth behind his comment. That track sort-of closed down anyway

Hmmm.... that's a pretty stupid blanket statement. Talk about swinging the pendulum in the opposite extreme. The only reason I am using the word "stupid" is because it matches your tone.

Dealing with literally hundreds of vintage 2002's and e30 race cars over the past eight years I've seen plenty of oem lines fail, just as I have seen stainless lines fail. I've seen bad stainless and bad rubber lines, I've seen great stainless and rubber lines.

You don't need to be running "F1" to run stainless break lines successfully. Shoot Anthony Magagnoli's won the spece30 national championship while running stainless lines (and has run the same set of lines for the past couple years). We're running stainless lines on the 991 GT3R at work, while running rubber on the tracked GT3RS's.

            Madhatter,

I did my 24v swap years ago and I also tracked down someone who made an adapter from my stock hardlines to the A4 non quattro 1.8T booster/MC that I used. But now I can't find the info and am not sure on the pitch of the booster.

Do you know, or can you help me find an adapter to go from the stock lines to that booster? The main problem I run into is the shops all around here have no idea how to deal with our metric sizes and flares and advice they give is suspect. I don't think the tools they sell to make our own flares are meant to create the same bubble flare we need reliably, either, but that's just my thoughts on it. I'd rather find the guy who made the adapters (female on one side, male on the other--basically just threaded on ends to mate to the booster).
Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!
