Control Arms + Sway Bars and bushings

    Hey Guys -

Looking to swap in a e36 rack and pinion but figured I would get any other suspension work done at the same time. So far I have:

    Subframe Reinforcement
    Steering Guibo
    Motor Mounts

But was advised to also replace the below. Any recommendations on what kind to get and where from? Non track/race car, just an occasional top down day ride.

    Control Arms
    Sway Bars and bushings

Looks like there are some kits out there but prices vary (as I'm sure quality).

This is what i did. (Disregard the backwards control arms. A lot of "while I'm in there" stuff. UUC sway bar put in. It's a real pain in the ass to line everything up solo, hope you've got help.

You could also add an x brace at the time.

Thanks @haystack. I was actually referencing the work you did. Which components did you go with? (Certain vendor?)

I got a person lined up for the work, just need to order the parts as of yesterday.

I just got lemforder? Control arms and UUC sway bar came with bushings. But any stock style should be fine.

Reinforcing the subframe is adding a whole other level to a rack swap (ie removing the frame) and in a top down nice day cruiser is not really necessary IMO. CA's/bushings, end links and tie rods will get you good BFTB.

I'd save your sway bars goals for if/when you do a full suspension upgrade.

              Thanks!
Any recommendations on where to get these? Looks like prices vary and I’m sure quality along with it.

Think I am all set with the extra components.

For hte e36 rack and pinion itself, any recommendations on brand or place to get? Again it looks like there are a lot of different ones and price tags along with it.

slight bump to warn anyone about this. I put the steering rack bolts in from the top before installing the subframe assembly. When i went to remove the steering rack later (due to unrelated complications) I had to cut the bolt heads off with a sawzall because I couldn't get them out due to the transmission/engine being in the way.

Yes. I'm a giant asshole for doing it that way.

I realized what I did and went to go switch them, but they hit the oil pan. I haven't had any issues with them hanging down but it's on my list of stuff to take care of on this car. Don't do what I did.
