    Help me choose a caliper.

Ok so here is my thing.

I've got a friend, who's a tuner... and he can organise me a set of 285mm discs with Ally Hats, braided hoses and Brackets.

The Hats will be made for a stock E30 disc offset, and the brackets will be made for which ever calipers I choose.

Now I want to run something that looks stockish... so I want to use BMW calipers (if I could find some nice Porshe calipers or maybe find some 350Z calipers I would use those... but only on my track car 2 be completed later next year)

The thing is they must be able to fit behind 16 x 7.5" Borbet Type A's ... So what u guys recommend ?

    what thickness rotors?
probably have to stick with 2pots or single pots, you might not have enough room to run 4pots. E34 540 calipers could work and should give you the clearance.

try turbo 944 calipers if you want to keep a stock (although moved) mounting caliper. they are brembo and not really that expensive. if you want to go alittle bigger and go with an axially (i thank that is the right term...bolt down from the top) then go with boxter front or rear calipers (rears have slightly smaller piston sizes) also not that expensive and made by brembo and mono block to boot. don't forget to upgrade your master cyl too.

Thanks for the input man. I'll have a think about them.

Was also considering E46 330i or E36 M3 calipers , would they still fit with those discs and and wheels...

BTW, I'm waiting for my mate to come back to me about disc thickness.

Shipping would be death, and kill most if not all possible savings :(

Boxter rear calipers would work nicely.

On what rotors? Have you found anything for out back that works with the factory hand brake system and is ventilated?

i think that he means that the rears would work nicely on the front w/o throwing the balance off too much because of their smaller piston size. you could go boxter on all four corners if you wanted since he is getting custom rotors made. maybe redrilled boxter rotors....hmmmm i'll have to take a closer look at work tomarrow and check the measurements, they both have a similar e-brake set up, wonder if they would cross over with a little work...........

supposedly 325i touring rears are ventilated and are compatible with E30 M3 rea calipers.

I was talking about using them up front. A corrado rotor would work well.

I dont have anything planned for the rear of my car yet.

Hey SA, can you get Z1 rotors over there? Bigger and ventilated, fits E brake and all.

only the 325iX rear rotors are ventilated, yes while E30m3 rear caliper would work they are pricey, I would go for the boxster setup as that is most popular with the VW crowd and it realitively inexpensive and has a better selection of pads.

Hey, nope we dont get the Z1 rotors :( . Although I might have come across a set of M850i 4 Pot Brembo calipers... but they steel and damn heavy.

I haven't though about the rear setup yet... what do u guys think ? Was just going to use brembo rear rotors or the like, on std callipers.

Bearing in mind the car is a street car, but is going 2 see quite a bit of track use. In the next couple of months, I'm going to start building up an all out circuit car.

So this will be my experimental phase, and in the track car I will be using a similar setup, to my road car, but prob with bigger rotors.

right because the Z1 was mass produced finding those rotors is going to be easy.
