How to get CA Bushings on and off

I have just put new control arms in the e30. Im putting the IE offset bushing in. What tool do I need to take the worn Control arm bushings off and install the new ones. The bently manual also mentions something about a special bmw lubricant which helps get them on althought it sets in 30min, what is the name of this lubricant or where can I get something similar??

To get the bushing off the control arm and lollipop bracket, you can use a sawzall. To install the new bushing into the lollipop bracket you need to use a press though.

If you can get them to spin on the control arm you can just keep turning them as you pull. They will slowly work their way off. I used a large screwdriver thru the outer bolt hole and cranked on them.

      Good luck,
      Matt

You don't need the special lubricant if you're replacing the bushings with IE or any other urethane / delrin CABs. The lubricant is only used for getting the rubber bushings back onto the control arms.

use a 3-arm puller to get them off (unless they're worn-out enough that they come off by hand)... take the brackets and new bushings to a shop and have them pressed in. They simply line the new bushings over the old ones. they remove the old bushings and install the new ones in one shot. that shouldn't cost more than $20. The lubricant is required because it's a bitch to put them back on the control arm. You're supposed to lower the car on the ground shortly after, in order for the control arms to twist in the proper position (before the lube dries out).

I use a generic puller and put three bolts with nuts through the holes in the bushing.... But you will need a press to get the bushings changed... I find it a lot easier to put the bushings on the control arms with a press as well.

BTW you can borrow a 3 jaw puller @ autozone for free (with like a $20 deposit or somethin).
I didnt need the press to install my AKG cabs. I just scotchbrited the inside of the lollipop smooth, lubed it w/a little silicone grease, put it in a vice, and beat the bushing in with a deadblow hammer.

I can change CABs in about 20 minutes using an airsaw.

                I did a tutorial: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=87295
                Hope this helps.
