I just had some IE Stage 3 springs fitted to my Bilstein B8 shocks. These IE springs are made by Eibach for Ireland Engineering and have similar specs and rates to the H&R Race. Apparently the drop on the front is 2" compared to 1.5-1.7 for the H&R Race, that's why I got them.
They look good, and there is still enough clearance to run 215/40 R17 tyres. Ride is rough over bad roads, but its a better ride than my previous chopped springs.
But I was informed that the way the springs sits in the seat its not 'trapped' and could turn in the seat if I was to get a wheel in the air or hit a curb or something.
They say its not the worst they had seen, but for example my previous springs, which were stock but chopped, were trapped far better.
I have never even heard of this phenomenon of an untrapped spring. So at this point I am thinking two things...
1. These springs are not made to spec, or they are made for coilover kits, and not suitable for the Bilstein B8.
2. Or, they are fine and this it totally normal for E30 lowered springs. The suspension specialists that put them in are a national chain so are giving me the standard liability speech, and its actually nothing to worry about.
What do you guys think?
