there really is nothing wrong with using cut springs with decent dampers. whatever shocks/struts are on your 25 year old 318 are probably not decent though.

A spring is a spring, cutting one makes it shorter and higher rate. Sure its ghetto, but if you want your height lower than stock but higher than any available lowering springs, why not cut for freebies? This is assuming you have shocks that can handle your new, stiffer spring rate.

yes, obviously 25 year old struts are gonna be shot, i changed them. And yes to mx325, this is until i end up with new springs.

        AND to PHILO,
no smart ass, i didnt measure, i used my eyes to make an estimate, hence the word "maybe" before the 3/4". I dont have a ruler, can I borrow yours??

Thats not much drop at all. I was so close to cutting mine the other day but decided against it. I cut the springs in my jetta and said "Its just temporary, I'll buy some when I get some cash", 3 years later the car starts sagging, my 17's are getting into the fenders. It just isnt worth it for me anymore.

Yea you can cut waayyy more off the springs and it'll still ride okay if you have decent shocks.

                  Did you cut the back?

You have apparently never looked at the rear springs.

The spring balloons in the middle with the two ends dedicated to sitting on the perch. If you cut them they will not sit correctly.

No shit. You can still cut them and weld the ends to the chassis and trailing arm, or just cut them and be ghetto and let the car rest on them and hope they don't fly out. lol You can tell in the pic of the back wheel it's definitely lowered some.

yes, the backs are cut, and they dont sit properly, which is why im getting real springs. If you want a ghetto lowering job for free, then cutting springs works, but its just that...ghetto. I'de say the car was lowered about an inch.

How bout this, if you guys have to cut the fronts, at least cut half a coil up top and half a coil at the bottom instead of chopping off one whole coil and what not.

                              COIL SPRING CONTROL
Universal Coil Spring Control Kit. Easy to install, controls may be used in place of spacers for quick, easy height adjustment. These controls can improve weight transfer. Two per set.

Has to be better the zip ties....Although may cost more...
