Quest for the right spring continues...

I have been looking for a spring that would work with the Bilstein sports on my S52 swap car for the past couple of months.

Having tried the Eibach Pro kit and now the H&R Sports to be lacking in enough spring rate to support the extra weight of the S52 without bottoming the Bilstein Sports, I am going to try to some things used by mainly dirt track cars (sprints, etc).

I'm going to try some spring cushions first to see if they will provide the extra stiffness I need, if that doesn't work then I'll try the springs. The cushions come in rates between 10 and 75 lbs. I'm going to try some 30 lbs ones first and see how they work. These will raise the spring rate to approx 210 lbs/inch.

There is also a huge selection of springs available out there, and they match the specs of the E30 springs (diameter, length, etc) pretty close.

The best thing is these pieces are not expensive at all; the cushions only cost me $80/pair and springs are only $120/pair...

Should have the cushions in place by next week.

so basically once you are done testing all this crap you will have spent more time + money than a set of coilover sleeves?

So do you want to sell the current springs you have to get some extra cash?

No I've spent less than $200 so far since I sold the Pro kit springs for $150 and the cushions are only $80.

After looking at all the choices out there that would actually get me to where I want to be, stiffer springs with the drop I want (coil overs w/shortened struts seem to be the only viable alternative), I can't justify spending $700 on that setup when I don't plan on really putting the car on the track that much.

Granted I could get back some $ or so for the H&R/Bilstein sport combo, but that still means more $ overall.

What about IE3/HR-race option? Too stiff?

Coilover sleeves. You dont need short body struts to run them.

Do it. Get the GC sleeves. Or if you're feelin froggy the cosmos, I have em and have seen nothing wrong with them yet.

The spring cushions will be here in a couple of days. I'll try them and see how they work.

I'd really like to find a solution without spending $400 on the GC sleeves/springs...

Get eBay sleeves, find some used springs on here or through bfc, and you saved yourself some coin.
