Failed RSM

These are about 3-3.5 years ago, granted about 1-1.5 years were used with stiff rates (500front/650rear), so I am actually surprised they have lasted this long.

On to the pictures:







Replacement Lemforder rsm for now (will replace with aftermarket later when I switch back to coilovers).





Pretty easy job to do... using 2nd jack to guide the shorter h&r sport spring up

Seems to me that stiffer springs would have no effect on the RSMs...why would they?

I think it is just ride height, and how often the shock bottoms out.

Damn I'm surprised they lasted that long man.

Back when I had my red car I went through 3 RSM's within a year!! Luckily they were the "lifetime warranty" versions LOL.

I bought the polyurethane versions from Turner and haven't had a problem since :)

actually, they do. the shock is what controls the spring, if you make the spring stiffer then the shock has to work harder, and thus the shock mount.

I'm not even sure it's possible to bottom out the rear shocks on an E30. I haven't had bump stops in mine in ever, and it's never been an issue. you would likely hit coil bind first..
