          Seriously,

If we had a REP points system, you'd SO be repped. I cant tell you how long ive been searching for answers to this question but to no avail.

No prob. Just dont cut off more than an inch or so! Otherwise havoc will ensue inside your strut tube.

What I'm not understanding is where the shaft goes. My struts are completely bottomed out and the shaft is pretty much fully inside the housing. By shortening the bumpstop, wouldn't the shaft go too far into the tube?

Theres a pic of hellabad bottoming out struts with his own weight somewhere on here, and theres still plenty of shaft showing.

Maybe the ix struts are different then, because I have about 1/4" of shiny left sticking out.

No no no, you dont bottom them out to remove it. You put the nut on the top, flip it upside down, then smack it into the ground. Should pop out the bottom after a couple smacks. If you bottom it out, you are just pushing it onto the bump stops and wont get anywhere.

Thats why you only cut 1" off. Anymore and you are going to wreak havoc on the internal bits.

The shaft you see in the pic is on the bottom of the strut in the tube.

No I'm saying that with weight on the car there is only 1/4" of the strut shaft sticking out. If I was to shorten the bumpstops an inch, wouldn't that put my shafts too far down in the tubes?

Its not lowering your car more by cutting them. Its allowing the shock piston to travel 1" more overall from the bottom.

I was just referring to the pic, which shows that a 1" cut should be fine

But what I'm saying is when the shaft travels that 1" lower, like driving over bumps, wouldn't the shaft go too far inside the tube? Since I only have 1/4" of shaft sticking out when the suspension isn't compressing.

Then press the bottom plate back into the yellow sleeve. Rides like normal, but the shocks have another inch of usable travel.
Do they (Bilstein) offer this service for new shocks?
