    bilstein sports + stock springs

the bmp springs that came on the car are all sorts of jacked. first, they are rusted. 2nd, and more importantly, someone heated them up to lower them further, the middle 3 coils on all corners touch.

so i have the full stock suspension available from a parts car. im not exactly keen on giving up the bilsteins, but im not going to spend any money on suspension either. so its either...

    1. full stock suspension
    2. bilsteins + stock springs

    advice is appreciated. thanks.

Sports won't work with stock height springs, will they? I thought you are only to use the HDs for that application. Anyone with actual knowledge want to chime in?

          bilsteins + stock springs.
The bilsteins are just about garunteed to be healthier than the stock shocks.
At the worst, the bilsteins will cause overdamping, but probably not very much.

overdamping = struts aren't letting the springs do much work. At hilarious levels, it makes the car extremely stiff. Think the polar opposite of blown shocks.

The suspension may be a touch tall for the sports. They may still work though. It sounds like a hack but you could cut the springs a tad with bilstein sports. 90% of what sucks about cut stockies is the stock blown shocks that come with it.

Really, sourcing some cheap m3 springs or H&R sports would probably be the best solution

If the bilstein sports are a lot shorter physically than stock, yeah that will cause problems.

If you REALLY refuse to get some M3 springs, then sell the sports and pick up a set of Bilstein HDs or tourings. IIRC there was a set of tourings for like $100 in the classifieds, sell the sports and make $200.

Used h&R sports are dirt cheap too. Seriously, they're pretty common on the classifieds for under $200, and you'll be sooo much happier with the car's ride.

Sell some crap from your parts car until you get a hundred bucks, then buy used springs with that money.

                        $200 springs for a $400 car.

lol. its just not worth it.

i think i'll just go back to stock suspension and sell the sports for $200.

hell, i may even go so far as to get rid of the sport seats and install good comforts. i mean why not? its a DD.

You're going to have a hard time maintaining your car if that's your criterion for what you will and won't buy.

Who the fuck maintains a 400 dollar car?
