Turning radius does not change on the Z3 rack. The total travel of the E30, E36, and z3 racks is almost identical. I had all three sitting on my bench at one time and was able to measure the travel and number of turns required for that travel. Z3 rack is close to 2.8 or 2.9 turns, E36 (non '95 M3) was about 3.5, and the E30 was just over 4 turns. As the travel (the total distance the rack moves) is the same on the racks, the turning radius does not change.

Was that shot at me? :D Do you have better information? I was wondering when I would get slammed on this board. Just stating my actual experience. If you have a Z3 rack, or have any real knowledge of my "misinformation" why don't you offer it up? If not, explain to me how if the travel of the racks is the same, the turning radius would be any different.Originally posted by DanGillanyour an idiot, stop spreading misinformationComment

what else could change turning the radius? :? i did not measure and compare the travel of the z3 rack vs the e30 rack, but i'm positive that there is pretty significant difference of turning radius between the two.Originally posted by coupeownerTurning radius does not change on the Z3 rack. also, the zionsville cd-rom has some sort of pirating protection on it (sort of like microsofts activation tool) so in order for addis to give you an image of the cd-rom it will no longer be of use to him, and there is no way to copy the text or take screen shots. just a heads up.

That is exactly what I am saying. Rack travel = turning radius, not lock-to-lock = turning radius. Given the same suspension geometry (I even used the E30 tie rods), the travel of the rack is what determines the turning radius. If both racks move the tie rods the same amount, how would the turning radius change? I will gladly pull my car down off the rack this weekend to measure the turning radius to get a definative answer, I have to get my new pads bedded before the next track day anyway.
Maybe MattM20 could measure his actual turning radius and compare it to somebody w/ a stock rack sooner?Comment

If you are the "master" at everything would you care to explain why he is wrong? It seems logical to me, I mean if it travels the same amount then the radius would be the same, since that would be the only thing that changes.Originally posted by DanGillanoh god....Comment

My buddy Dan got me riled up enough to get the car down last night. I measured a 24' 9" diameter at the inside of the front wheels (rear wheels is less). I went to a parking lot and used a couple of pieces of paper to mark the radius. Not exact, as I had to estimate the widest point, but should give us an idea.
Found this in the archive.
Refers to an article where they measured no difference in the travel of the racks. While another found 3/16 " (3%) difference on another test. If the 3/16 inch travel difference is correct, then the turning diameter difference should be about 8" less.
Anybody w/ a stock rack willing to measure their radius?Comment

okay
so i cant find my fucking cd anywhere...
If anybody has alcohol 120% and a zionsville cd (matt)... Please send me an image and I'll go to the work of ripping everything you'll need... It has protection... but I have my ways... PM me if you can do this.

yeah... so fuck zionsville... right in the ear!!!!
Their software is so rediculous that I cant even use matts cd with my cd key. I emailed them and asked them whats up and they told me that I was violating the user agreement and they are unwilling to do anything.
So what am I going to do?
I'm going to take my knuckle out and do a write up and show you guys whats up. Its not like my car is running anyway.
Mother fucking "intellectual property" slap the waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles little bitches like they deserve... even better- a mushroom tip bruise.
I have a whole day and a half off coming up tomorrow so I'll hop on this shiat.

I was afraid that would happen. when i loaned you the cd the first time, my version was deactivated as soon as you activated yours. You can still, however, get all the pictures from the disc's directory.Originally posted by Addissimoyeah... so fuck zionsville... right in the ear!!!!

just giving my 2cents: if the rack travel is the same on the 3 racks, then theorectically, the turning radius shud be the same when fitted onto the SAME car... cos there's no change in suspension geometry. Unless someone can prove otherwise....
But lesser lock to lock would be good for AutoX....BMWClub Malaysia
