    Strut install help

Do i need a special tool to keep the strut from rotating while tightening the nut? Im using an impact wrench and cant get the strut rod to stop turning.

Most struts have a provision on the end of the strut rod for a counter hold, either flats for a wrench or an allen socket. If your struts don't have that, You can grab the rod through the spring near the top with channel locks. Pad the jaws with copper (like from copper tubing).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

You can either use an impact wrench (which isnt working for you), Find an Oxygen sensor socket with the cutout/a socket with a hex shape on the end that you can turn with a wrench, so that you can fit an allen wrench inside it to keep the strut shaft stationary.
OR, you can be a jerk and clamp some locking-jaw pliers onto the strut shaft nearest the top of the shaft to keep it stationary (its a terrible way to do it but it works if you absolutely cannot get it the other ways)

      Edit: Beat by a minute

Jeezus...don't grab the shaft with vice grips. Any marring of the shaft will void any warranty later on.

The impact will work, but don't just put it on there and hit the trigger. Use short bursts. It will tighten, I promise! You'll be able to hear it when everything cinches up.
