    Front CV Joint

I have a 1987 325iX which was built in Germany (according to the build sheet) and shipped to Canada at some point in it's life. It seems rare as I have yet to find a 1987 AWD anywhere (in Canada at least). I have been looking for a front driverside CV joint for it for a while now and have had no luck so far. Well, I am able to order one through my local BMW dealership for around $2000 CAD but this is more than I want to spend unless I have no other choice.

Basically I am wondering if anyone knows of any good sources to find such a part. I have ordered a used E30 CV joint from a 1989 325iX but it wasn't combatible. The shaft on it was larger than the original in my car... I guess there were changes made between those years.

shit 2200 for a axle? damn!

I'd look around on the forums, try the U.K ebay etc.

Are you sure you got the right side? the passenger side has a longer peice that goes through the oil pan. The left/right are different, you probably got the wrong side. there is no "euro" front CV shaft so don't bother trying to find one from the UK..

there were basically zero changes to the ix drivetrain - All transfercases, diffs, and driveshafts are the same/compatible through the cars entire production. You can verify this with a part # search.

The ix was made from 1986 through 1991 btw, but the US/Canada only got them from 88-91 officially. All E30s were built in germany too. ;)

have you considered sending your bad one out to be rebuilt?

Well the shaft on the one I received from eBay was larger in diameter than the one I have on the car. I figured there shouldn't be changes between those years but I was baffled by the fact that the one I ordered and the one I had were different.

I will keep my search up though and if I have no luck I will look into having it rebuilt. Thank you for that idea... I didn't consider that. Thank you all for your help.
