GC spring Q: Which are fronts which are backs?

This is kind of a silly question but I need to be 100% sure before I proceed here. I bought a used GC kit with no instructions hence why I am begging for help here.

In this pic are the taller springs the fronts?

If you look carefully you can see that the taller spring tapers a bit at either end where the shorter one does not.

Looking at the pictures of full kits on the GC site it appears that the taller springs with a bit of taper should be on the front but I am not totally sure since the rear springs are a higher rate and I would expect them to be beefier than the fronts then.

Can anyone shine a light on this for me?

The shorter spring is going to go in the rear (generally 5" tall), and the "tapered" spring is called a barrel spring, they should go in the front. Also, check the ID of the springs, normally in GC kits the fronts are 2.5" ID and the rears are 2.25", but IIRC some kits used 2.5" for both (the springs I bought were all 2.5").

It looks like they've got the same number of coils, but the taller spring looks a little less beefy (coil thickness wise), as well as having a larger coil diameter overall, both of which would contribute to a softer spring. If you want further confirmation, I was able to tell the difference between my 450# and 600# springs just by stepping on them. Of course, if by some long shot you are wrong in your assumption, it really is not a huge deal to switch the springs around. :p

The one on the left looks exactly like my TCK front spring (flat on both ends, no taper). I'm willing to bet that's your front, especially if it is a 425.

EDIT: Looks like I may be wrong:

        GC180.64.35 (7/2.5"/200 lbs)
        GC125.64.75 (5/2.5"/425 lbs)

I don't see a 64.39 on their site, but I can't make out that last number.

          ...Just talked to GC...

150.64.53(6/300) which would have been used on a 318 front with uncut struts.

Thanks for all the help guys. I appreciate it.

I never realized you could look the springs up by number on the site like that sweet.

You need to call GC again. Those are all 2 1/2 inch front springs, and no rear springs. Also, you can tell it was never sold as a kit because the rear adjuster in the pic is for 2 1/4 spring (most common), so possibly none of that would have been sold together.

Call me and I will help you figure out what to do next.

Thanks Jay for offering assistance on a kit that I didn't even buy directly from you. I'm not going to be back home to call for another two weeks now but I will be sure to give you a shout when I do.

Ground Control definitely has some damn good customer support.
