    E36 rack

As some of you know i just got an 88 325is and it has a "e36 rack" i was wondering if there was a way to tell if it really is an e36 rack? the car car also needs inner and outer tie rod ends. If i was to get tie rod ends and it is an e36 rack what tie rod ends do i have to buy?? o and by the way this is funny :hitler:

Count the number of turns it takes the steering wheel to go from lock to lock. If it is less then 4 its probably a E36 rack.

You can use E30 or E36 tie rods.

Look at how it's mounted to the subframe. If there are spacers holding it to the ears of the subframe, then it's a non-E30 rack--most likely an E36 rack.

^should be an e36 rack then. A regular e30 is about four I believe.

I would get E36 tie rods and USE E36 LOCKING PLATES. Do NOT use E30 locking plates with E36 tie rods, you may die and that would be bad.

                  If it's about 3 then you have an early e36 rack or a rack from a S50 M3, which is 3 lock-to-lock, later e36 3-series had 3.25 and the Z3 has a 1.9 I think?

                    The non-M z3 rack is 2.7 l2l, the z3m rack is the same as any e36 rack which is 3.2 l2l, only the '95 m3 is 3 l2l

The non-M z3 rack is the best one to have, not because of the shortest l2l, but because it is has a linear ratio. (same rack travel per input turn across the entire rack length as opposed to the z3m and any e36 rack which is a progressive ratio.)

                      LOL

                      Z3 is 1.9........ Liter! Imagine driving a 1.9 lock-to-lock.
