Just did the typical IE3 and Bilstein sport suspension overhaul, but now my stock muffler (bosal from the M42) Is banging against the drivers side shock. Anyone else have this problem/a solution? I'm thinking just take mechanics wire and tie it over to the right a little? Any better ideas?
IE3 + Bilstein sport = hitting my muffler

Perhaps they cut the pipes too short when they installed the muffler so it's too far forward and hitting the shock bolt? This was the case with my exhaust."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

Yeah I just got a brand new stock exhaust from the cat back like a year ago, all the mounting points are correct. Looking birds-eye, with the top being the front of the car, it would look like the top left corner of the muffler body is beside the lower shock bolt, like probably within a micrometer, so that any vibration makes the muffler rattle like hell against the shock. but now if I pull the muffler over to the right I'll be hitting the hole in the valence for the exhaust. Fuck it, I'm going to go take pics. BRBOriginally posted by Dozyproductions

Check your rubber hangers they just might be getting weak and old.Comment

Are you sure? Hmmm. But that would mean the tip would be even more angled than it is now, because if it was flipped over the outlet would be more to the right. Fuckers....
Can someone else with stock 318is exhaust post a pic to compare?
Also: would this change where it's sitting in relation to the shock? It would be a symmetrical flip wouldn't it? It shouldn't matter if it's upside down or not?Originally posted by Dozyproductions

WTF !! How can this be such a big problem that its thread worthy?
Also your muffler is NOt upside down so relax.
Why don't you loosen the rear hanger that bolts to the subframe and pull your exhaust over and tighten it back up?
This will do the trick.
Alternatively you could just try pulling the exhaust over without doing anything to the hanger as it seems your mechanical abilities (as well as other things) are limited.Comment
