control arm boots. which ones better? BMP or OE?

Looking for a set of four boots to replace my brand new ones with tears in them. I need to get either OE, or better, since they are brand new. any ideas? i spoke to the guys at BMP, and they are saying that their Urethane boots are more or less intended for older control arms with tears in boots, and dont creat as good a seal as the OE ones.

    any help would be great

Hmm, wow...I just bought those urethane ones for my new ones.

I guess I had that all wrong then...

hmmm...I already pulled one boot off...guess I could put it back on if I wanted to...

    What does everyone think?

I toyed with it a bit, and it looked like it would seal pretty good when the control arms were screwed back in, since there would be pessure on them.

yeah i dunno thats what they told me over the phone, i mean im sure they are fine n all, but i had an option to return my CA's and get the original boots on them, or these BMP ones, and the guy told me that the ones on the OE ones, are better if new...

I figured the BMP ones would last longer. That's why I got em.

Does anyone else have any comments on them?

i dont doubt that they woud indeed last longer, its just the sea i was after in order to protect the ball joints. Also, when my boots finally get cut during usage, i will be replacing them with the BMP ones.

I figure it'd be easier to replace them right now before the stock ones even have a chance to rip.

I'll put them on, i got em - might as well. Should I use silcon gasket sealant or something? I'm thinkin no, since that probably shouldn't get on the ball joint.

my ball joints wore out way before my boots.. actually the boots on my unknown mileage control arms (probably around 90k+ on them) weren't torn when I took them off the car. so the stock ones are probably just fine.

The tight fit (once everything is screwed back together) and the grease will seal either type just fine. I had to replace the ones on an ex's 525i once upon a time and the BMP ones outlasted her ownership of the car. You wouldn't want to use any sealant anyway because the ball joint has to be able to slide around inside the perimeter of the boot.

Well, I bought them, probably shouldn't have.

But, since I have them, I might as well put them on.

Yea, I'll use the grease the boots came with.

I got three for each side - two for each control arm and one for each tie rod. God dammit, what a waste of money! :?
