My steering colum seems to make this clunk noise sometimes. I first noticed it when i got the car and the wheels wernt balanced. Now i can still notice it when i go over bumps. The worst part is that i can move the wheel side to side when stoped and i can hear the noise and at the same time there is a little jolt i can feel through the pedals. I took my power steering off a month or so ago but i could hear the noise before then. However, it seems like it might be getting worse. Any one know what this could be?
I think something might be very wrong with my steering

it had a reman rack put in it about 10k ago and i should still have fluid in it cause i just took the belt off. I do plan on upgrading to a quicker rack anyways. The cluck sounds like its comming from the actual colum and it sounds like its not too far infront of the steering wheel, and also the pedal jolt makes me think its right there.Comment

It could be the steering guibo in that case. Its part of the coupling between the steering column and the rack.Comment

yeah thats what i was thinking, since it would have a lot more stress on it with no power steeringComment

Does it happen every time you turn the wheel, or more when you're turning into a corner, or what? I'd take a look under there and make sure your front sway bar is still fully connected to the car where it bolts onto the subframe. When I bought mine, the bar was flopping around bad enough to hit the subframe and make a big clunk (which I definitely felt through the pedals) every time I turned the damn thing.Chris

i just went out and rolled down the window and looked at the steering joint and it looks like the rack might be the problem. Which pisses me off becasue it was a nice rebuilt rackComment
