OTS koni shocks vs GC konis

Does anybody have any solid info on this? I just threw a pair of koni shocks at full stiff in the rear of my car with 650 lb/in springs and I feel that the rear is very underdampened. Is this because mine are not dampened enough?

    WTF Mate?

I was trying to figure that out a few weeks back, came to the conclusion calling GC is the only way I'm going to get a real answer. Most things posted online (and listed on thier site) leads you to think that they are valved stiffer, but I'd call them.

GC revalves their shocks according to the spring rates you run. Thats why the Konis at GC cost more than anywhere else. I think that the GC revalved Konis have a little GC imprint on the shock body, but i'm not completely sure. Also, you can get the Konis revalved for about $60-70 a piece.

I bought my Konis from Eurasian. I called GC up on more than one occasion asking for recommended settings and they simply said turn a few "clicks"

I asked about valving and the shrimp didn't want to come clean on what they do. I asked another time and was told all they do is adjust them for you. Some have said in somewhat more trustworthy auto-x forums that they simply adjust the settings for you.

GC is pretty much the only place to have the top adjustable rear Konis because they are made for them (or is it by them?)This is what my research brought to the table a few years ago.

Seeing how they handle things around there (IMO) I wouldn't think most people would get what they really wanted in terms of valving depending on the time they ordered and if they ordered a very STIFF rate or a common setup like 350/475 or 450/600 (In the case of e30s)

When I say valving here, I am referring to the internal valving of the shock to adjust the rebound. When I say adjust, I am referring to them turning the knob on the shock to a certain rebound.

This is not true, for the most part. I know that much

That was the reason I asked, they are very vague/unclear [on purpose] when they talk about the shocks

For years I was convinced that all they do is adjust the rebound to at least roughly match the spring rate, but now their site lists this description (which I'm sure you guys have caught):

Custom made for Ground Control by Koni of Holland....The valving is more aggressive than the standard sport valving, and is designed for the enthusiastic street driver (Is that you?).

That threw me off. If they are really "custom made", then the internal valving should be different. I'm hoping for more compression dampening, but it sounds like getting a straight answer to if anything is different with the GC Konis and then in what way are they different may be impossible.

You're sure you turned them fully to full-stiff? Maybe they feel underdampened because you are so used to driving around on bump stops! :P

Um, driving on the bump stops in the rear = entire trailing arm falling off. It's also pretty damn difficult to do.

It's not difficult to do when you are running E36 rear shocks in a lowered E30 and you have lost all travel. Regardless, my comment for Bryson was in jest.

I have done mucho research on this and this is what I found:

I wanted Koni SA's and wanted rear top adjust in addition; only TCK and GC sell them. I called Koni and they confirmed this AND they said GC uses diff valving....@ 5- 10 %( I assumed stiffer but could not find out). The off the shelf SA's from GC can be used w/ rates all the way up to 4-500 up frt and 650 in rear( a popular coilover start point for street/track cars). My SA's also have GC stamped in body of shocks.

I have had my set up for 3 days and on soft they are pretty comfy w/ HR race, and at 1 turn from full hard they remain streetable.
I love sitting down and just driving!

I wonder if the "off the shelf" SA's begin to get maxxed out w/ 650 lb springs?...Id be surprised if they make "custom SA's, but maybe?........

So 650 in the rear would be cool with Koni SAs....where 675 would be too much? trying to see what you mean by maxed out.
